Last week on Design Details we took a look at the engines bays that reside under automotive hoods. Today, we are looking at the hoods themselves! As always, it’s up to you to find the best, worst, and most interesting automotive hoods in history!
One of my personal favorites is the rock-throwing TVR Sagaris.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
You also can’t deny the classic style of the ridged rectangle on the old brick Volvos...
So what do you think Oppo?
What are the best/worst/most distinctive hoods in the automotive world?

Obvious answer is obvious.
Because Burt Goddamn Reynolds.

Good in this circumstance. Worst in the fact that Chrysler shoved this on the rest of their lineup with less success.
(ignore the headlight, its since been fixed)

I’d probably say the best hood in the automotive world is the 313.

Mmm, forgot about that one! For what it was, the Crossfire was actually a rather good looking little thing IMO.

I really love my ice cube trays in my 68 Camaro SS hood.

Yes! That is gorgeous, I have actually never heard/seen them before. Are they functional beyond looking really badass?

Definitely! I would assume some sort of intercooler lurks under that lattice?

Awesome! I love the side hinged Skoda frunk, it seems like it would be rather inconvenient in some situations...the 2CV and Subie are just simply gorgeous classics, and the Marcos is properly insane for a Marcos.

Well, that’s TVR for ya!

No they are not functional, they used this insert in both 68 and 69 SS hoods, the 67 SS Camaros had just fins.

Yup! SR20DET with a top mounted intercooler stock, however it was very popular when modding for more boost that people would forgo the top mount and go for a front mount instead.

Sort of obvious, but I like how functional these scoops are. They’re there because the intercooler is on the top, because the engine is lower, because it’s a Boxer, because it’s a Subaru. There are good reasons for all of it.
The comparable Evo has a vent but not a scoop, because it’s there for its own reasons.
